MLB 14 The Show developer Sony San Diego provided new details on the game's new Online Franchise mode today, revealing the basic progression during each season.
Online Franchise will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, but not PlayStation Vita. The mode expands The Show's existing online leagues to include the roster management features of Franchise mode, like negotiating contracts and scouting potential draft picks. And Sony San Diego said in a developer blog sent to Polygon today that for Online Franchise, the studio "continued to refine the game logic that governs trade values, lineups, player generation and more."
Options open to league creators include schedule type, designated hitter preference and custom roster usage, and league commissioners will also have the ability to realign baseball divisions. All franchise owners then partake in scouting of amateur players during the regular season, and after picking those individuals in a live online draft, owners send them to the minor leagues, which encompass A, AA and AAA levels.
You'll be able to assign any player to a training session, and trade minor-leaguers just like you would trade MLB players. The offseason takes part in two phases, with the first consisting of contract renewals. New logic means that you won't be able to lock up young players to cheap long-term deals, since that's not the way it works in real-life baseball these days. The second part of the offseason consists of free agent signings, where all franchise owners will bid for players over the course of a few rounds; you'll be able to adjust the number of rounds.
